Biography

 

John Armleder is a conceptual artist whose work encompasses a varity of disciplines; sculpture, painting, installation, performance, and music. In 1969, Armleder founded an international interdisciplinary community of artists, known as the Groupe Ecart. This community was especially important during the 1970's and 80's as it introduced and gave notority to a wide array of artists within the European art Industry. 


In 2001, Le Magasin in Grenoble presented a major one-person exhibition of his work. Besides many solo exhibitions worldwide, his works have been presented in international shows such as the Paris Biennial (1975), Venice Biennale (Swiss Pavilion, 1986), Sydney Biennial (1986), Documenta (Kassel, 1987), Lyon Biennial (1993), Posthuman (Castello di Rivoli, 1993), Open Ends (MoMA, New York, 2000), among  others. Armleder lives and works in both Geneva, Switzerland and New York, New York.
