Biography

These imagined scenes are fed by memory, mythology, and the mysteries of the feminine.

I paint women in mostly barren landscapes, exploring the relationship between the monumentality of female might and the intimacy of interior life. These imagined scenes are fed by memory, mythology, and the mysteries of the feminine. With dramatic scale shifts in the figure(s) to the landscapes, I am playing with the ideas of awkwardness and solitude during ones journey through the world.

I am equally fascinated by the stories of women, their identity, and a sense of place. Most recently, Mary Magdalene and the images made around her story throughout art history. Her journey into and out of the cave. I am captivated by the images of her hair and how it's used as a form of punishment or mutation. And how these narratives inform beauty standards and ideas around the way women should operate in the world.
