Painted around 1970, A Mounting Secrecy demonstrates Fine’s full embracement of the grid and more geometric forms later in her 50 years of prolific career. Against a bright apple-green background, Fine used thin, pale-lavender lines to create a grid that host a set of rhythmic wave patterns with slightly thicker brush-lines. While flat and geometric, the wave lines, grid, and the green background all illustrate the artist’s hand with subtle painterly brushwork. Together with the contrast between the almost fluorescent green and the quiet lavender, it creates a fascinating viewing experience for the viewer.
